Dr. Shapiro is a former Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and has held additional academic appointments at NYU School of Medicine and New York Medical College.
With more than 35 years of clinical experience, his work focuses on regenerative biologics, extracellular vesicle therapeutics, and biomarker-driven approaches to improving human healthspan.
He completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with clinical training at Jacobi Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center. He has also served as an Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Shapiro has served as Principal Investigator or investigator on multiple FDA-regulated clinical studies, including IND-authorized Phase I/II trials evaluating extracellular vesicle biologics across indications such as COVID-19 respiratory disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, osteoarthritis, traumatic brain injury, and post-viral inflammatory syndromes. His work focuses on translating emerging biologic science into clinically deployable therapies targeting the underlying mechanisms of aging.
He is a recognized leader in age management and regenerative medicine and previously served as President and Medical Director of Cenegenics New York City, where he led one of the nation’s premier age-management practices. He is the recipient of the Alan P. Mintz, MD Award for Clinical Excellence in Age Management Medicine and is a frequent faculty speaker for A4M and AMMG.
